When water hits your home or business, it can be devastating. One way that water often ends up damaging your property is from a leaky water heater. It is something we see often, and we want you to know we are here for you should this disaster strike your home or business!
Make Sure it's Safe
Anytime you discover water in your building, you must exercise caution. There could potentially be black water or other hazards. Before you do anything, survey the scene to make sure everyone and every important item are out of harm's way.
- Do not touch any water if you suspect it is black water (containing raw sewage).
- Do not turn on any electrical switches in the area.
- If you have to get in our near the water, wear the proper safety equipment.
Get Items out of the Way
If it is possible to remove damaged items from the area, do. If there are undamaged items close to the leaking tank, it is important to get those removed well out of harm's way.
Dry up the Water
It's critical to start drying the area as soon as you can. This will discourage mold growth. Use a wet vacuum to extract the water and high-powered fans to dry out the ground and walls.
